| Environment and safety
The safety of the installations as well as that of, employees and the surronding population are together with the concern about preserving the quality of the environment, aspects considered as being fundamentals and of great concern, to which CLC gives special attention.
This concern started while the project was still on the "drawing board". We would mention the choice of passive transport of the product: pipeline, the size of the storage plant which allowed the deployment, in a balanced manner, of the different types of structures so as not to conflict with the surrounding area.
Several soluctions were adopted in order to minimize any negative impact on environment that this type of activity is usually associated whith :
- In the filling process the emission of volatile organic material into the atmosphere is reduced with the Vapor Recovery Unit. The emission of pollutants is also limited in the WO tanks, as they have internal floating roof with double seals;
- The tank bond has a Polyethilene layer underneath in order to prevent leakages that may pollute the soil;
- The installation has a water treatment plant with primary and secondary treatment (activated sludge) and the treated water is able to be monitored continuously.
- The pipeline is protected with a triple Polyethilene layer, a cathodic protection system and, in some sensitive areas, there is an extra thick wall to prevent any unlikely leaks into the adjacent areas.
- The pipeline incorporates a leak detection module that allows any unlikely leak to be detected in a short period of time
